Raceday concerts
Ascot Racecourse
1999 – 2009
The experience of holding a music festival inspired Ascot to start what has now become a trend of live music after racing on their most prestigious cup days. One such example is the Blue Square Shergar Cup, for which some 8,000 race goers throng into the Summer Paddock to enjoy a free concert after the day’s racing.
The raceday concerts started in modest way with acts such as Hadley Norman & Keeble, The Brand New Heavies, Morcheeba, Ruby Turner and Sam Brown, then built to Amy Winehouse, Mis-Teeq and Sugababes in 2004, Melanie C and Human League in 2003 and, in 2002, Level 42/Mark King, Natalie Imbruglia. And followed recently with Charlotte Church, Madness, Natasha Marsh, Escala, Blake, Supergrass and the very popular Hear & How show featuring performers from the 1980s
